Senior Database Engineer

As a Senior Database Engineer, you will work directly with our clients and related teams to design and develop complex SQL queries and procedures used to support data warehousing and data transformation needs. In addition, you may be required to design and deploy a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) to support client data integration. Also, in support of our clients, you will be looked upon as a knowledgeable resource in the development of CSV, HTML, and PDF reports. Experience with the SAP SuccessFactors Learning (formerly Plateau) data model is highly desired.

General Responsibilities:

  • Technical
    • Design and develop Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) processes to include:
      • RDBMS design and development
      • SQL query and development
    • Report Development
      • Design and develop CSV, HTML, and PDF reports utilizing Eclipse Business Intelligence Reporting Tool (BIRT) or Plateau Report Designer (PRD), SQL queries, and XML
  • Other
    • Direct and monitor all activities from initiation to delivery - accountable for overall performance and delivery of defined scope(s) of work
    • Serve as primary customer contact
    • Manage and prioritize tasking originating from multiple customers
    • Facilitate client meetings, set and manage expectations on multiple projects
    • Assist with the creation and maintenance of documentation and governance needed by the client
    • Troubleshoot technical issues and work as a liaison between the client, other contractors, and vendors.

Required Skills:

  • Technical
    • 4-6 years of technical consulting experience
    • RDBMS design and deployment experience – Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL
    • Ability to design and develop complex SQL queries and procedures
    • AGILE Software Development
    • Test Case Design and Development
    • Strong knowledge and experience in data modeling, database design, optimization for performance, SQL, stored procedures
    • Familiar with application servers (IIS, Weblogic, Apache HTTPD, Apache Tomcat)
    • UNIX / Linux – shell scripting/cron
    • Data migration planning and validation
    • Extract Transform Load (ETL) processes and tools (i.e. Pentaho, custom scripts, etc.)
  • Other
    • Ability to work with limited supervision
    • Must have excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills
    • Expertise in understanding complex business needs, analyzing, designing and developing solutions

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with SAP SuccessFactors Learning (formerly Plateau) data model/schema
  • Single Sign-On - SAML 2.0
  • Eclipse BIRT or PRD report development tools 

Travel: 25% or less

Location: Washington DC Metro

This position is a remote position, working from home/co-working space with occasional onsite meetings at the client sites.

Looking to join a talented, respected, and growing organization that rewards independence and ambition? The Marick Group has an immediate opening for a Learning Management System (LMS) Help Desk I agent.  Someone in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area is preferred, but not required.

The SuccessFactors Administrator/ Help Desk I Agent will support our SuccessFactors Learning Management System (LMS) and Blackboard Learn help desk for a federal client. The individual in this role will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving issues, closing tickets, and providing subject matter expertise to internal departments and stakeholders pertaining to SuccessFactors LMS and Blackboard Learn.

In addition, the selected candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Work to resolve Tier 1 help desk tickets related to SuccessFactors Learning and Blackboard Learn
  • Provide top-notch customer service to individuals and groups
  • Analyze Tier 1 issues to determine patterns, share patterns with team, and work to create a resolution
  • Escalate tickets appropriately to Tier 2 and to the client’s IT department
  • Document client business processes, requirements, and other business needs
  • Research, analyze, and interpret data
  • Establish effective working relationship with clients
  • Understand the professional development process and become actively involved by setting challenging goals and meeting them through continuous learning
  • Actively applying feedback received to day-to-day work and strive to improve performance

Job Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree and 2 years of experience; preferably with a focus on customer service and learning management systems
  • A good understanding of learning management systems
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Team player who can easily adapt in a rapidly changing environment
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • US citizenship required

What makes you stand out?

  • Previous SuccessFactors LMS administration (or other learning management system)
  • End user software support experience (specifically, supporting end users in a learning management system)
  • Knowledge of Blackboard is a plus
